:: AEStar

Based on a old script i found on the Internet, I created some advanced tools to do secure Backups in tar-format to a local disk, a remote computer via ssh-pipe or to a external USB-Drive. The data is in any case encrypted with AES-256.

Other than that, my scripts behave all the same as the normal tar command.

In case of the USB Drive, you mostly want to keep that FAT32 filesystem on the drive to be able to interchange files with other operating systems. Therefor you need a way to work around the 2GB filesize limit. This is where aestar-split comes in. You can backup large chunks of data to your USB-drive splitted into 1GB chunks. As a bonus, all the data is securely encrypted, so that you can take the disk with you to your friends to exchange normal files without worrying about your private data in your backup.
